About the Event
Ambassador Anih Ngozi Grace G the founder and Executive Director of Fatherless/ Motherless Children Aid Org (FACADO) had a session with orphans to mark International Literacy Day at Facado Orphanage home Abuja with the Theme - Promoting literacy in the digital age.
This means equipping people not only with the ability to read and write but also with the skills to effectively navigate, understand, evaluate, and create information using digital technologies. She gave the breakdown of what it involves:
1. Traditional Literacy
Basic reading, writing, and comprehension skills is still fundamental, even in the digital world
2. Digital Literacy
Ability to use digital devices (like smartphones, computers, tablets).
Understanding how to access online content (websites, apps, databases).
Knowing how to communicate online (emails, social media, forums).
3. Information Literacy
Knowing how to find reliable information online.
Evaluating sources for credibility and bias (e.g., spotting fake news).
Understanding how search engines and algorithms influence what we see.
4. Media Literacy
Interpreting and critically analyzing digital media (videos, memes, ads).
Understanding how media shapes opinions and culture.
Creating responsible and meaningful digital content.
5. Digital Citizenship
Using the internet ethically and respectfully.
Understanding privacy, cyberbullying, and digital footprints.
Engaging in safe and responsible online behavior.

The children were happy and made some requests that they truly need laptops and smart phones to help them make the lesson most practicals.
They also appreciated the knowledge which they termed eye-opener.
