2023 MINISTERIAL PRESS BRIEFING TO MARK INTERNATIONAL LITERACY DAY ORGANIZED BY NATIONAL MASS EDUCATION COMMISSION, HELD AT THE HONOURABLE MINISTER’S CONFERENCE HALL, ABUJA ON 7TH SEPTEMBER 2023
The Honourable Minister, Tahir Mamman, reaffirmed the unwavering commitment of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's administration to the eradication of illiteracy and the promotion of skill development. This commitment was made in observance of International Literacy Day under the theme "Promoting literacy for a world in transition: Building the foundation for sustainable and peaceful societies."
The Ministerial briefing which had NOGALSS National President, Comrade Noah Emmanuel in attendance was also attended by distinguished individuals, including the Honourable Minister for Education, the Honourable Minister of State for Education, the NMEC Executive Secretary (ably represented) and NMEC Management Team, representatives from the UNESCO Regional Office in Abuja, the Executive Secretary of the National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE), the Secretary-General of NATCOM UNESCO, other high-ranking government officials, International Development Partners, and members of the press.
The event served as a platform to reaffirm Nigeria's commitment to advancing literacy and skill development, aligning with the global efforts to build a sustainable and peaceful world. The presence of key stakeholders and international partners highlighted the collaborative approach towards achieving these crucial objectives.
In light of the above, the National President of the Nigerian Non-Governmental Association for Literacy Support Services (NOGALSS), Comrade Noah Emmanuel, called upon all state chapters of NOGALSS and well-meaning Nigerians to rededicate themselves to the eradication of illiteracy and the promotion of skill acquisition in Nigeria. He emphasized the importance of equipping all citizens with the ability to read, write, and acquire the skills necessary to shape their own destinies, fostering self-reliance and contributing to a nation where possibilities are limitless and dreams can become reality.
