About the Event
The World Poetry Day is celebrated globally on the 21st of March. It is a day set aside to promote reading, writing, publishing and teaching of poetry. In the past 10 years, KIR Foundation has organized Poetry competitions in 13 primary schools; Model Primary School Nkpogu, Community Primary School Amadi-ama, Army Children Primary School Rainbow Town, Dame Alice Model Primary School Elekahia, Greater Evangelism Nursery and Primary School, State Primary School Amadi–Ama I, State Primary School Amadi–Ama II, State Primary School Azuabie, Eze Iche Akarolo Model Primary School Elekahia, State Primary School Oginigba, State Primary School Abuloma, UPE Ozuboko, First Baptist Nursery and Primary School and State Primary School Rumuomasi, in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Ademeg Nursery and Primary School Makoko in Lagos State, St Paul's Lutheran School in Mbikpong, Ibesikpo, Akwa Ibom State and Prikkle Academy Kwara State to promote an awareness and appreciation of Poetry. This year’s World Poetry Day falls on Thursday the 21st of March. In previous years, the pupils of primary five (5) and six (6) participated in a creative poetry contest. ‘THE NIGERIA OF MY DREAM’.
