About the Event

NOGALSS APPLAUDS PROF. SIMON AKPAMA AND NMEC FOR A SUCCESSFUL NATIONAL STAKEHOLDERS MEETING ON ACHIEVING YOUTH AND ADULT LITERACY IN NIGERIA

We are thrilled to share the success of the recent National Stakeholders Meeting on Achieving Youth and Adult Literacy (Pillar 4 of the Road Map for the Nigerian Education Sector (2024-2027). Led by Prof. Simon Akpama and the NMEC Management Team, the event saw active participation from stakeholders across all 36 states and the FCT. The presence of Honourable Minister of State for Education Hon. (Dr.) Yusuf Sununu,  and House Committee Chairman on Alternative Education Hon. Arc. Ibrahim Almustepha Aliyu, highlighted the strong support for our literacy and education initiatives.

At the meeting, NOGALSS National President Comrade Noah Emmanuel presented key solutions to tackle high-level advocacy and critical challenges in the Adult and Non-Formal Education sector:

1.    NOGALSS Council of Elders for a Literate Nigeria: Driving high-level advocacy with the experience and influence of our esteemed members.
2.    Collaboration with UNESCO: Partnering to bring international expertise and resources to our efforts.

He urged the stakeholders to leverage these initiatives. Additionally, he advocated for a National Policy to enhance NOGALSS' capacity for data collection on literacy and non-formal education activities of NGOs and relevant CSOs in Nigeria.

Hon. Ibrahim Almustepha Aliyu, House Committee Chairman on Alternative Education, mentioned that President Asiwaju Ahmed Tinubu GCFR has taken strategic steps to boost the Adult and Non-Formal Education activities in Nigeria. He also committed to working closely with the Leadership of the  National Assembly and the Presidency to expedite actions on the autonomy of NMEC and increase funding for the Non-Formal Education sector in Nigeria.

In light of these developments, we call on all Zonal and State Chapters to double their commitment and dedication to NOGALSS' mission. Together, we can achieve a Literate, Educated, and Empowered Nigeria.
