NOGALSS SUSTAINABLE LIVELIHOOD SKILLS DEVELOPMENT AND EMPOWERMENT CENTER (N-SLEC)

Introduction: The NOGALSS Sustainable Livelihood Skills Development and Empowerment Center (N-SLEC) is an innovative initiative launched by the Nigerian Non-Governmental Association For Literacy Support Services (NOGALSS). N-SLEC aims to address gaps in existing literacy programs and provide a comprehensive model that empowers individuals and communities through skill development and sustainable livelihood opportunities.
Objectives:

  1. To equip learners with practical skills and knowledge relevant to their local contexts, enabling them to improve their economic well-being and break the cycle of poverty.
  2. To empower individuals by providing opportunities for personal growth, self-reliance, and active participation in community development.
  3. To promote sustainability by ensuring the needs of the present generation are met without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.

Components:

  1. N-SLEC Model Centers: These centers will be established in collaboration with member organizations, associations, and individuals, as well as NOGALSS chapters at the state, local government areas, and ward levels. These centers will serve as hubs for literacy, skill acquisition, and livelihood development.
  2. Livelihood Development:
    • Skills Training: N-SLEC will offer comprehensive skills training programs that align with local needs and market demands. These programs will focus on practical skills that can enhance learners' employability and income-generating potential.
    • Entrepreneurship Support: N-SLEC will provide entrepreneurship training, mentoring, and access to resources to support learners in starting and managing their own businesses.
    • Microfinance and Access to Credit: N-SLEC will collaborate with financial institutions to facilitate access to microfinance and credit services, enabling learners to invest in their livelihood initiatives.
